Supplemental Disability Insurance Programs (SDIP) help protect an individual’s financial situation if they become sick or hurt. These programs can be designed on an employer or employee paid basis. Many executives or high level employees have some amount of "exposed" income. For example, exposed income could consist of bonuses that are not covered, or it could be due to a low maximum benefit in the underlying core disability plan. We educate our clients on the true impact of becoming disabled taking into consideration compensation, underlying core benefits, taxes, etc.
It is our experience that most employees do not fully understand how their company-provided disability benefit works and what the financial impact of getting sick or hurt would do to their situation. This is why our education and communication of these issues is critical.
We develop customized solutions that give employers and employees the ability to purchase additional or supplemental disability benefits above and beyond the core group disability plan.
These supplemental programs offer employees individual, portable contracts with negotiated discounts and simplified or guaranteed issue underwriting. Our programs offer employees the ability to purchase additional benefits that they may not be able to duplicate in the marketplace.
Designated account management team:
- Jim Mooradian and Associates, Inc. has a 20+ year track record in this area of Supplemental Disability Insurance Programs and they bring their experience and leverage of this market to their customers.
- We deal directly with the client for all aspects of the program including design, communications, enrollment strategy and administration.
Design:
- There are numerous factors that drive the underlying design of an SDIP, and ultimately, what amount of supplemental benefit can be offered. Factors can include: the amount of core group disability benefit, taxability, type of covered earnings, how individuals get compensated and when they receive it, etc.
- In addition, the product, carriers, premium discounts and underwriting concessions, all need to be negotiated on the behalf of the customer.
Communication Materials:
- Because of the many variables that make up the design of a program, SDIP offerings are highly customized based on the criteria used to develop a solution. In the same respect, communication materials are uniquely designed by Jim Mooradian and Associates, Inc. to support the program's design.
- Communication must be educational in nature in order to effectively disseminate the overall value proposition of the program.
Enrollment Strategy:
- Enrollment strategies vary depending on access to the eligible population. We have found that the effectiveness of the strategy is strongly dependent on the communication and education exhibited in the supporting materials so that the value of the program is understood.
Administration:
Administration covers areas such as payroll deduction and policyholder service, but also includes assistance with claims execution, etc.
